Det er behov for å starte på den nye fortellingen, en der flere kjenner seg hjemme. Der vi gjenoppdager fellesskapet vi alle tilhører, og som gir oss håp.
Fortellingen om i dag er fortellingen om klimakrise, naturkrise og kriger, og det er de polariserte debatter og maktkampers tid. Vi er langt utenfor komfortsonen, og det er langt mellom ord og handling.
Med Matsymposium tar vi utgangspunkt i det som knytter oss sammen – maten. Dagens matproduksjon står overfor en omfattende omstilling. For å mestre denne omstillingen er det nødvendig å styrke tverrsektorielle samarbeid, og legge til rette for at flere stemmer kommer til orde. Matsymposium 2025 skal legge til rette for en bedre offentlig samtale – om hvilket jordbruk og havbruk vi vil ha, om matmakt, om mat som identitet og mat som kulturbærer. Matsymposium er et ikke-kommersielt og åpent ettdagsarrangement, med formål om å demokratisere samtalen om maten vår.

Om Matsymposium
Tittelen for Matsymposium 2025 er JORDEN, HAVET OG MENNESKENE. Symposiet gjennomføres i samarbeid med Nasjonalmuseet i tilknytning til utstillingen «Ny nordisk. Mat, estetikk og sted». Gjennom arrangementet ønsker vi å skape en opplyst samtale om havbruk og fiskeri, havet og fjordenes tilstand, jord, økologi og natur, tradisjoner og innovasjon, og ikke minst menneskenes plass i dette landskapet. Vi ønsker å utforske kunstens og museenes rolle inn i debatten om mat og matkultur, og hva det nye nordiske kjøkkenet har hatt å si for utviklingen av og samtalen om mat og matproduksjon de siste 20 årene. Vi vil også belyse hvordan utviklingen har påvirket de lokale historiefortellingene. Vi ønsker å invitere inn viktige stemmer fra den nasjonale og nordiske scenen, og knytte våre ulike og komplementerende nettverk sammen for å nå nye målgrupper.
Gjennom en dag vil det avholdes foredrag, panelsamtaler og improviserte publikumsaktiviteter mellom ledende forskere, praktikere, kunstnere, designere, filosofer, psykologer, studenter og andre interesserte.
Vi savner en reflektert, kritisk og inkluderende dialog om framtidens mat. Matsymposium skal samle mennesker som ønsker å forandre verden gjennom maten.

Vi som arrangerer
Debio Marked står bak Matsymposium. Symposiet er initiert av Else Skålvoll Thorenfeldt og Idun Bjerkvik Leinaas og gjennomføres i 2025 i samarbeid med Nasjonalmuseet. En programkomite bidrar i utformingen av programmet.

There is a need to start the new story, one where more people feel at home. Where we rediscover the community we all belong to, and which gives us hope.
The story of today is the story of climate crisis, nature crisis and wars, and it is the time of polarized debates and power struggles.
We are far outside our comfort zone, and there is a long way between words and deeds. With the Food Symposium, we start from what binds us together – the food. Today’s food production is facing a comprehensive restructuring. To master this transition, it is necessary to strengthen cross-sectoral collaborations, and facilitate for more voices to be heard. Matsymposium 2025 will facilitate a better public conversation – about what kind of agriculture and aquaculture we want, about food power, about food as an identity and food as a bearer of culture. The Food Symposium is a non-commercial and open one-day event, with the aim of democratizing the conversation about our food.

About Matsymposium
The title of Matsymposium 2025 is THE OCEAN, THE EARTH AND THE PEOPLE. The symposium is carried out in collaboration with the National Museum in Oslo in connection with the exhibition «New Nordic. Food, aesthetics and place». Through the event, we want to create an enlightened conversation about aquaculture and fisheries, the state of the sea and fjords, soil, ecology and nature, traditions and innovation, and not least the place of people in this landscape. We want to explore the role of art and museums in the debate about food and food culture, and what the new Nordic cuisine has had to say for the development of and conversation about food and food production over the past 20 years. We will also shed light on how the development has affected the local storytelling. We want to invite important voices from the national and Nordic scene, and link our different and complementary networks together to reach new target groups.
Over the course of a day, lectures, panel discussions and impromptu audience activities will be held between leading researchers, practitioners, artists, designers, philosophers, psychologists, students and other interested parties. We miss a reflective, critical and inclusive dialogue about the food of the future.

Organizers
Debio Market is behind Matsymposium. The symposium was initiated by Else Skålvoll Thorenfeldt and Idun Bjerkvik Leinaas and will be carried out in 2025 in collaboration with the National Museum. A programme committee contributes to the design of the programme.
