Det er behov for å starte på den nye fortellingen, en der flere kjenner seg hjemme. Der vi gjenoppdager fellesskapet vi alle tilhører, og som gir oss håp.
Fortellingen om i dag er fortellingen om klimakrise, naturkrise og krig, og det er de polariserte debatter og maktkampers tid. Vi er langt utenfor komfortsonen, og det er langt mellom ord og handling. Vi lever i en unntakstilstand. På et sted, eller i et hjem.
Med Matsymposium 2023 tar vi utgangspunkt i det som knytter oss sammen – maten. Maten som produseres gjennom et samspill mellom natur, kultur og mennesker. Mellom lokale og universelle steder. Vi ønsker å demokratisere samtalen om maten, på tvers av fagfelt.

Om Matsymposium
Hvordan et bærekraftig matsystem og en robust verdikjede skal se ut er det mange meninger om, men det alle kan enes om er at jordbruks- og matindustrien trenger å gjennomføre omfattende omstillinger i tiden framover, og tverrsektorielle samarbeid er nødvendige. Skal vi oppnå dette, trengs det en bedre offentlig samtale – om hvilket jordbruk vi vil ha, om matmakt, om mat som identitet og mat som kulturbærer. Gjennom en dag vil det avholdes foredrag, konversasjoner i panel, improviserte publikumsaktiviteter og matfaglige samtaler mellom ledende forskere, praktikere, kunstnere, designere, filosofer, psykologer, studenter og andre interesserte.
Vi savner en reflektert, kritisk og inkluderende dialog om framtidens mat. Matsymposium skal samle mennesker som ønsker å forandre verden gjennom maten.

There is a need to start on the new narrative, one in which more people feel at home. Where we rediscover the community we all belong to and that gives us hope.
The story of today is the story of the climate crisis, the natural crisis and war, and it is the time of polarized debates and power struggles. We are far outside our comfort zone, and there is a long way between words and actions. We live in a state of emergency. In a place, or in a home.
With Matsymposium 2023, our starting point is what connects us – the food. The food that is produced through an interaction between nature, culture, and people. Between local and universal places. We want to democratize the conversation about food, across disciplines.

About Matsymposium
There are many opinions on what a sustainable food system and a robust value chain should look like, but what everyone can agree on is that the agriculture and food industries need to implement comprehensive restructuring in the time ahead, and cross-sectoral cooperation is necessary. If we are to achieve this, we need a better public conversation – about what agriculture we want, about food power, about food as identity and food as a carrier of culture. Throughout the day, lectures, panel conversations, improvised audience activities and food science talks will be held between leading researchers, practitioners, artists, designers, philosophers, psychologists, students and other interested parties.
We miss a reflective, critical, and inclusive dialogue about the future of food. The symposium will bring together people who want to change the world through food.
